About FaceAfter retiring from the Army, Hackworth exiled himself to Australia. While there, he wrote his autobiography, About Face, with Julie Sherman. Hackworth collaborated with veterans and goverment officials to create an account of the battles he fought. Upon finishing the book, Hackworth returned home.

CorrespondentHackworth returned to the U.S. and embarked on a career as a war correspondent. He wrote for Newsweek writing a column called "Defending America". Hackworth went to the front lines to share the truth with the public about today's military. Hackworth's dedication to protecting and representing the troops earned him much respect and admiration by soldiers.
