Basic Training
"The more sweat on the training field,
the less blood on the battlefield."
-Colonel David H. Hackworth
(752nd Tank Battalion, 1947, About Face)
In 1946, Hackworth started basic training in the 752nd Tank Battalion in Trieste, Italy. While training in Trieste, Hackworth gained great knowledge on how to lead soldiers and best practices for how to fight the enemy. This intelligence was given to him by his superiors, Captain Steve Prazenka and Captain Kenneth Eggleston.
“about 75 percent of the Trust NCOs who went and lived were destined to be either battlefield commissioned to lieutenant or to receive high awards, proving that “the chrome-plated soldiers of Europe,” of TRUST, trained in the spirit and with the dedication of what was probably an anachronism* of an army, were indeed soldiers of the high caliber”
